Attorney
Overview:
The Support and Lien Recovery Litigation Unit (SLRLU) encompasses various sections responsible for the litigation and recovery of Medicaid costs, public assistance, and child support. SLRLU seeks dedicated contract attorneys focusing on different aspects of its recovery efforts and representing the agency in Family Court. The agency is seeking full-time contract attorneys for a 6+ month assignment, with potential for long-term extension.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Child Support Enforcement Team (CSET):
- Provide legal counsel and litigation support
- Establish paternity and child support orders
- Represent the agency in Family Court across NYC’s five boroughs
- Defend the agency's fiscal and administrative enforcement of support orders
2. Lien Recovery/Mixed Recovery Team:
- Litigate and recover costs related to Medicaid from personal injury settlements and awards.
- Handle recovery of public assistance costs and excess resources from spouses of recipients.
- Enforce recovery claims, liens, and child support arrears within transactions or litigations.
Qualifications:
- Admission to the New York State Bar is required
- Experience in family law, Medicaid, or public assistance recovery litigation is preferred
- Strong litigation skills and experience in Family Court
- Ability to handle a high volume of cases and manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously
- Excellent legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills
Compensation:
$52-58/hour
