Controls Engineer

Controls Engineer 

TGC Search is partnered with one of our top clients in Milwaukee, WI looking to add their next Controls Engineer to the team in a direct hire/full-time position.

As a Control Systems Engineer, you'll play a key role in designing and implementing electrical controls and power distribution for complex automation projects. Reporting to the Control Systems Engineering Manager, you will collaborate with project teams to deliver custom machining solutions on time and within budget. This position requires creativity and ingenuity in applying engineering principles to solve unique challenges in automation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Developing, testing, and troubleshooting PLC and HMI programs using standardized methods and conventions.
  • Designing and integrating machine safety systems and industrial network infrastructures.
  • Conducting in-house testing of control components and systems, as well as on-site equipment tests for customers when needed.
  • Diagnosing equipment failures and making recommendations to manufacturing staff for improvement.
  • Acting as Lead Controls Systems Engineer when requested, coordinating with project teams, and providing status updates to Project Managers.
  • Completing all necessary project documentation and maintaining accurate project records.
  • Traveling up to 25% of the time, with the possibility of international travel, for project-related tasks.
  • Ensuring smooth system start-ups by fostering positive relationships with customers, subcontractors, vendors, and co-workers.

Desired Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Technology, Automation Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in control systems engineering, with hands-on experience in hardware design, PLC, HMI, Vision Systems, and Robot programming.
  • Proficiency in programming control components, such as PLC, safety devices, servo drives, and process hardware.
  • Knowledge of common control architectures, networking, and interfacing with higher-level computer systems.
  • Familiarity with industrial control devices, sensors, PLCs, and HMIs, with a strong preference for experience with Siemens or Allen Bradley PLCs.
  • Experience working with a wide range of production machinery, including robots, LVDT, pressure transducers, and various control systems.
