Job Title: Contract Attorney – Depositions & Settlement Negotiations
Location: Lower Manhattan
Start Date: ASAP
Schedule: Full-Time, Fully On-Site
Contract Duration: 1+ years; likely to extend
Overview:
We are seeking 10–12 experienced Contract Attorneys to join a government agency handling a high-volume docket of sensitive sexual assault claims under New York’s Child Victims Act (CVA) and Adult Survivors Act (ASA). Attorneys will play a key role in conducting depositions and settlement interviews with plaintiffs and survivors. This is a highly meaningful opportunity for attorneys with litigation experience to make a direct impact on cases involving trauma and accountability.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct plaintiff interviews with care, empathy, and professionalism
Take and defend depositions, with a trauma-informed and survivor-centered approach
Participate in strategic settlement planning and case posture discussions
Work collaboratively with legal teams to resolve cases efficiently and justly
Contribute to trial preparation and litigation strategy where necessary
Required Qualifications:
Active license to practice law in New York
Demonstrated deposition experience (required)
2–3+ years of legal practice experience
Strong interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence to handle sensitive subject matter with discretion and empathy
Willingness to work fully on-site as part of a collaborative and mission-driven team
Preferred Qualifications:
Background in tort litigation, personal injury, or sexual assault victim advocacy
Experience conducting settlement negotiations in high-stakes or trauma-informed contexts
Familiarity with government agency or institutional investigations is a plus
Compensation:
<1 year post-bar: $40/hour
1–3 years post-bar: $52/hour
3–7 years post-bar: $56/hour
7+ years post-bar: $58/hour
